The Grove

study 2023
Above a steep cliff in the middle of forests in the meander of the Vltava River in the place of the original farmhouse we propose a weekend house of traditional form in a modern and minimalist concept.

The proposed building follows the footprint of the existing building and extends northwards. This responds to local constraints, conservation areas and mature greenery. The result is a simple, single-bay, two-storey building with a gable roof.

The generous glazing of the various parts of the house provides the desired wow effect while purposefully connecting the interior to the surrounding environment. On the exterior, corrugated iron and wood cladding in dark shades complement each other. The curved massing divides the house into two equally sized parts, one containing the kitchen with an elevated living area and a spacious covered terrace, the other the night area and technological facilities. In contrast to the dark façade, the interior is designed in light shades, using wood panelling and stone tiles.

Technologically, the house will be equipped for limited island operation using a heat pump, wood boiler and photovoltaic plant. Cooling of the house in the summer months will be solved by means of cooled ceilings. All systems will be controlled by KNX intelligent wiring.
