Villas in Lysolaje
invited competition 2023
The subject of the competition was the design of the overall layout of the land in the eastern part of the historic core of Lysolaje and the complex design of a pair of luxury villas. The client required maximum privacy and comfort for the future owners combined with a close connection with nature.
The villas are designed as a set of two independently functioning buildings that speak the same architectural language and act as a single unit. The only partially common operating element is the basement, which includes the technical facilities of the buildings and garages with one entrance from the Lysolaj road. Behind the entrance to the garage there is a common communication space, which then leads to separate parking cubicles and basements of individual villas. Access from the street directly into the gardens is possible via the stairs in front of the garage entrance.
The plan shape and the gabled roofs of both villas are based on traditional village buildings. All living rooms in the villas are south facing with a view of the opposite wooded horizon. The main living areas on the ground floor are oriented in three directions, including a view of the rock – a relic of the mining operations in the former quarry. Each building has its own swimming pool, which in both cases is located on the edge of the cliff at the northernmost point of the garden.
The main intention of the project was to design a pleasant living environment with a superior exterior in the greenery of the Lysolaj valley. The villas respect the landscape, the nature and the historic core of the village both in their scale and shape and in the material design of the facades. These are not experiments, but timeless, minimalist villas that do not compete with the landscape of the Lysolaj valley in terms of their stability, but rather draw all their qualities from it.
